Things to do in Miami
The main attraction on Miami Beach is the historic Art Deco District itself. Primarily constructed during the Streamline Moderne era that lasted from the Stock Market crash to the start of World War II, the area features three dominant architectural styles: Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco and MiMo.
A great example of a Mediterranean Revival hotel in the Art Deco District, Edgewater South Beach was constructed in 1936. Like many of the historic building in the area, Edgewater has been lovingly and thoroughly restored. The Miami Design Preservation League offers both guided and self-guided walking tours of the Art Deco District, or guests with a more adventurous spirit can try out one of the Segway tours of the area.
Not surprisingly, many of the favorite attractions of guests vacationing in Miami involve getting outdoors and in touch with nature and the local wildlife. One of the most unique attractions is Jungle Island. This eco-friendly nature center, minutes from the hotel on Watson Island, features exotic birds, primates, and mammals. Across Key Biscayne, the Miami Seaquarium features close encounters with a variety of local sea life, from swimming with the dolphins to feeding the stingrays and learning about the revered manatees.
Visitors can also take advantage of a variety of boat and bus tours of the area, and the friendly hotel concierge staff can assist with gathering information and planning your day. Whether you want to head out to the Everglades for a day trip, or get a waterfront view of some of the luxury mansions during a boat tour of Miami’s coastal waters, adventure is only steps away from our Ocean Drive hotel.
